It is our inner self—our secret life—the part of ourselves we hide so others do not see it. And we guard it consciously.
Various Secrets We Keep
Good Secrets
We don’t want others to know these secrets, which are not necessarily evil, because it may cause negative reactions from others.
Example: A Muslim man who converted to Christianity hides it from his family because they would kill him.
Vain Secrets
These are secrets that may affect a change of outlook from others.
Example: A young man doesn’t want to tell his peers that he is afraid of ghosts because they may think he is a sissy.
Sinful Secrets
We keep these secrets from people who would not condone them and would confront us.
Example:
Sex sins such as voyeurism, watching porn, lustful thoughts, masturbation, fornication, adultery, rape, incest, etc.
Example:
Violent thoughts: thoughts of anger, hatred, homicide
Acts of secret violence: Murder, homicide,
Example:
Cheating in exams, lying, stealing
Painful Secrets
These are hidden pains, hurts, and wounds born out as early as childhood or even as early as a fetus in the womb. Many of them come from dysfunctional families and broken homes, often raised by parents who have themselves experienced rejection, abuse, betrayal, and domestic violence.
Example:
An abused child
A battered wife
A mistreated servant by the master
God Reveals Our Secret Sins

God Revealed My Secret Sin To My Wife
Since my adolescence, I have been sinning with lust and continued lusting even after I got married. While working abroad, I had an illicit affair with another woman. Not for long; God revealed it to my wife and she politely asked me about it. I was dumbfounded; I’m not good at lying so I wasn’t sure how to react. Surprisingly, my wife did not wait for my response. While on the phone, I heard her crying softly, then after a few moments, she urged me to come home. “ Yes, I will “, I replied. But in my mind, I doubted if I could go home soon because I can only go home for annual leave after a year.
A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9 NKJV
God Paved My Way Home
At that time, I was not slated for annual leave, but the office offered it to me, so I took it. I realized that it must be God paving my way home. Amazingly, everything needed for me to go home was supernaturally arranged.
Fear of God
By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the LORD one turns away from evil. Proverbs 16:6 ESV
After my wife confronted me that night, divine revelations began to unfold. The next day, on my way to the office, I saw a vision in the sky. I saw my wife kneeling before God, and God was talking to her. Fear of God came upon me so I said to myself, “If God is revealing to her my secrets, there is no way I can hide them. So I must get rid of them, come home to my wife, and make amends.”
Prayer Works Wonders
Because my wife and other prayer warriors fervently prayed for me, my life aligned with God, who revealed Himself to me in a series of dreams and visions. My wife played a powerful role as a divine epitome of forgiveness, unconditional love, grace, and wisdom, illuminating my darkened soul.
The Anointing Breaks the Yoke
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Isaiah 10:27 KJV
She avoided preaching to me. She tried once, but I reacted negatively. In God’s awesome presence, she was endowed with anointing that broke the shackles holding me captive to sexual immorality and lust. I felt her anointing like fire, enveloping me in holiness and grace so that in my mind and heart was a sudden change from darkness to light, radiating with heavenly serenity and sinlessness. Surely, the anointing mentioned in Isaiah 10:27 broke the yoke of lust enslaving me.
That yoke was transformed into a divine inspiration of devouring the holy scriptures, making me a hungry soul feeding on biblical revelations and insights. That day marked the wonderful beginning of my quest to know God—marveling at the awesomeness of God in the Scriptures.

Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
